We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot
escape responsibility for the results (Edward R. Murrow)

Type: Information
As the world changes so do the reports and news items that reflect those changes; a calamity today is forgotten tomorrow. For that reason and for the convenience of the visitor occasionally certain maps will move to a less prominent place while other maps are introduced.
Dossier Heritage Japan
This dossier was recently introduced as more and more news on the state of Japan's heritage is reaching us after the natural disasters early this year. Especially, the Miyagi Network News is tremendous helpful in getting an overview on the effects of the earthquake, the tsunami and the nuclear disaster on the cultural heritage in the northeast of Japan.
Communication from and with Japan is amongst others suffering from considerable language problems. Also, we have to realize that Japan is a society where it is not customary to ask for help and the first responsibility to solve problems lies with the group itself. Perhaps these are some of the reasons we did not receive information on the state of Japan's heritage so quickly after the natural disasters.
Dossier Heritage Iraq
The new name = Heritage Iraq and it has moved as a sub map under Heritage Middle East.
Though I am well aware of the continuing violence and the urgency of the preservation of Iraq's heritage, there is a clear decline in news messages on Iraq's cultural heritage. In fact there seems to be a standstill in this field. The World Monument Fund preservation project of Babylon is not moving due to troubles with the local authorities. The recurring changes in the authorities is not very helpful in the preservation efforts. The market in looted artefacts from Iraq appears to slow down and from the far corners of the world artefacts are confiscated and returned to Iraq. That at least it good news.
Dossier Heritage Haiti
The new name = Heritage Haiti and it has moved as a sub map under Heritage the Americas.
What goes for the Iraq file also goes for the Haiti file. However, the efforts of the international heritage community are in full force. At the same time the UNESCO International Coordination Committee is running and last month the donor community gathered at UNESCO HQ in Paris. Still, the news on preservation is slowing down and that is why I decided to move it to another place in the file structure.
I hope the visitor will continue to read the CiD website and follow the international news on Culture, Cultural Heritage and Crisis. For sure, those colleagues affected by calamities and those in the developing world in general will need our steady support.
