Nigerian parents and guardians have been enjoined to instill the local culture in their wards upbringing as that is the only tool that will help them reconcile with their native land.
This was the submission of Mrs Evelyn Enofomo, a Lecturer at the Lagos City Polytechnic.

Enofomo who described Culture as the totality and way of life of the people within the confides of a locality made this statement during the School’s maiden Cultural Day organised to celebrate African culture held at the school premises in Lagos.

According to her, “Over the years, our culture has had romance with other cultures of the western world and this is making so many people forget about their backgrounds in which they come from.

I grew up with Guardians who didn’t like our African culture so much but the case was quite different for me because I later got to understand that there was great need and importance of culture to us, Africans and ever since I have always cherished it and that has made me to instil that same African culture in people any where I find they are lagging behind.”

Continuing she pointed out that “We commenced with a social Drama group and the school had only set the program up as a borrowed course in their curricular activities.
But the Chairman of the school saw the need and how we were able to carry on with the program so, he decided that we should establish a drama department in the school which we did and that is the reason for today’s celebration.

I really intend it to be an annual school thing to help call back lots of people to their culture.”
The Director of Corporate Affairs of the Institute , Chief Mrs Ibidoni Olufuwa, also opined that it is the first ever cultural day in the history of the school and that they are looking forward to it to hold again.

In her words; “The English lecturer actually brought the idea of the event. It was usually held every December during the end of year thanks giving service, but she decided that we have it in such a way that students will have to dress up in their own cultural attires to merry together. ”
