Several artifacts were alleged to have been stolen from the ancient Siva Devala in Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka) and they were found abandoned in the nearby jungle, probably when the thieves found it difficult to escape with such a heavy load.
One of the artifacts was a masterpiece of sculpture about two and a half feet tall by two feet wide. Archeologists said it was a part of a pillar in the historic building. However, Polonnaruwa police said they had not yet received a complaint in this regard.
