The beauty and the dichotomy of that beauty set against the destruction and history takes your breath away
Mountain2Mountain (M2M) and TrinityEight | 38PR present the interactive art experience, Streets of Afghanistan. Debuting in Spring 2011 in Denver, Colorado, this nationally touring exhibition serves as the cultural backbone of Mountain2Mountain's fundraising for its projects and programs in Afghanistan. Streets of Afghanistan is a collaborative, living art exhibition combining ten-foot-high photographic images of Kabul's city streets and its people, video projection, music, and humans themselves, to create a wholly unique and innovative approach to the ethos of storytelling. Streets of Afghanistan immerses visitors in an area of the world most will never see.
Streets of Afghanistan is a collaborative effort of Western and Afghan photographers and artists, connecting communities and cultures in an effort to combat apathy and break stereotypes in a region of the world enduring nearly four decades of conflict. “It's a country and a city bursting with heartbreaking beauty and jaw dropping scenes every time you turn your head,” said Mountain2Mountain founder Shannon Galpin. “The beauty and the dichotomy of that beauty set against the destruction and history takes your breath away.” For more information, please visit www.streetsofafghanistan.com.
Shannon Galpin founded Mountain2Mountain in November 2006. Inspired by becoming a mother, Shannon took action on her deep conviction that all women and girls deserve the same rights and opportunities as her own daughter. Today, M2M is a burgeoning nonprofit that has touched the lives of hundreds of men, women and children in Afghanistan. M2M has launched projects across the war-torn country to create opportunities that were unimaginable ten years ago, investing in the idea that empowering individuals empowers communities. M2M’s current initiatives focus on girls’ education, rural midwifery, women’s prisons, and the deaf community. Mountain2Mountain believes education is an entry point for community growth and change and works to implement cyclical programs that include training, job creation and microfinance.
