Dr. Zahi Hawass, the Minister of State for Antiquities, went to the United States to give a series of public lectures and to hold several press conferences in five different states. The aim is to promote tourism in Egypt.

These events are based on a previous agreement between Hawass and Mounir Fakhry Abdelnour, the Egyptian Minister of Tourism, as a part of the co-operation relations between the two Ministries to encourage international tourism back to Egypt after the revolution and help support both the economy of the country and Egyptian monuments.

The Ministry of State for Antiquities has implemented multiple projects as part of a renaissance for the Egyptian heritage, based on the income from tourism and from exhibition loans abroad.

The campaign by Hawass and Mounir Fakhry Abdelnour has been approved by the Prime Minister of Egypt, Essam Sharaf. As part of this campaign plan, Hawass has so far met with journalists from Belgium, Germany, and conducted a satellite interview with Sir. David Frost in the UK.

This is intended to promote tourism in Egypt as well as the future plans of the Ministry of State for Antiquities and exciting archaeological excavations. Hawass has organized trips for journalists to the Civilization Museum, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, the site of Giza, and Luxor so they can report back how safe Egypt is to visit.

Hawass would like to demonstrate to the public abroad that the Egyptian people who made the revolution are the same ones who protected the museum during the lawlessness of 28th January 2011. He would like to add that all the tourists in Egypt during the revolution left the country safely, without any problems.

Tourists will be able to see the magic of the Pharaohs for the first time under the new democracy of Egypt.
